Course Overview
Certified Safety Specialist (CSS) certification purpose is to promote excellence and professionalism in the Occupational health, and safety (OHS) field. CSS certification authenticates that certified individuals have met minimum formal education, competency, and experience requirements.
The criteria for designation as a Certified Safety Specialist (CSS) are extremely high. Applicants must have a degree and at least three years of professional safety experience.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants for CSS certification must meet one of the following three options:
Applicants must possess.
- A GCSE or associate degree and have a minimum of five years of safety experience in an industry where safety comprises at least 50% of their job responsibilities.
- An Associate diploma in HSE or a closely related field and possess at least three years of professional safety experience in an industry where safety is a minimum of 50% preventative at a professional level. The experience should include a wide range of health and safety responsibilities.
- Accredited Master's/bachelor's degree in any field and hold a minimum of two years of professional safety experience in an industry where safety forms at least 50% of the job responsibilities. The individual should have extensive knowledge and experience in various health and safety duties.

Exam Method & Format
The examination consists of 200 questions by CBT and 4 hours to complete. It is required to get 70% marks to pass a certification examination.
The questions are presented in any of the following formats:
- Case-based (a set of questions associated with a brief scenario)
- Independent questions (stand-alone examination questions that contain the information necessary for responding).
