The PEEB operates as a personnel certification body accredited under ISO/IEC 17024:2012 by the International Accreditation Service (IAS). IAS assesses personnel certification bodies for competence, impartiality, consistency, and the effective operation of certification schemes for persons. ISO/IEC 17024 provides the internationally recognized framework for certifying individuals based on defined competence requirements, including valid assessment methods, impartial certification decisions, surveillance, recertification, and control of certificates. IAS states that its personnel certification body accreditation program is based on ISO/IEC 17024 and provides a global benchmark for personnel certification schemes to operate in a consistent, comparable, and reliable manner.
The international accreditation framework has recently changed. With effect from 1 January 2026, the functions and recognition arrangements of the International Accreditation Forum (IAF) and the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC) transitioned to Global Accreditation Cooperation Incorporated, which commenced operations as the single international accreditation cooperation body. The former IAF MLA and ILAC MRA arrangements have been subsumed into the Global Accreditation Cooperation Incorporated MRA, with continuity of recognition for existing accredited conformity assessment results.
